Historical Development
Xcel’s leadership team played a pivotal role in driving growth at the
Ann Arbor Railroad, supporting direct service to the Toledo, Ohio
Jeep Assembly Plant. The team developed and expanded vehicle
distribution capacity across four strategically located
facilities—three rail-served and one non-rail-served—enhancing
operational flexibility and throughput. By leveraging connections
with three Class I railroads, Xcel’s team secured inbound and
outbound commitments from major OEMs, including Chrysler, Ford,
General Motors, and Honda. These commitments encompassed
rail transport, dealer delivery, truck movements, and vehicle
containment services. The resulting increase in railcar volumes and
logistics activity significantly strengthened the network’s ability to
meet rising consumer demand tied to nearby OEM production.
